Cambelts

Your cars cambelt or timing belt as they are also known, performs the important task of joining the moving components, crankshaft, camshaft and valves together. It is the valves that allow the air and fuel mixture to enter the cylinders and subsequent exhaust to escape. The combustion of the air and fuel mixture in the cylinder drives the pistons which in turn give the car its power. It's the cambelt which provides the crucial synchronisation between the valves and pistons, and with the pistons moving up and down several thousand times a minute, a collision could cause major damage to your engine proving extremely dangerous and also very costly with some cases needing a new engine.

It is inevitable that over time, deterioration of this important component will occur. For this reason it is a vital requirement that the cambelt be changed at regular intervals set out by the manufacturer to avoid it failing or breaking completely. These intervals are normally expressed in miles or months whichever occurs first.

Replacing a cambelt is a complex job and should always be carried out by a trained technician. If fitted too tightly the cambelt will stretch and break, fitted too loosely and it won't work efficiently. At Autoclinic, our fully qualified techicians can offer expert advice on the right cambelt for you and your car and carry out the necessary work safely and efficiently providing you with complete peace of mind.
